Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has made an huge claim that last year’s finalist Liverpool should be banned from the Champions League.

Liverpool’s last year’s long and unwinding journey towards Kiev came to a bitter end. The Merseyside club witnessed a very disappointing loss against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Moving on from that, Reds have now become a genuine favorite to clinch trophies, backed by stunning transfers. The Anfield club is all set to ingress the stage of this year’s Champions League – with an aim to bounce back from last year’s final nightmare.

But, meanwhile, according to Express, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has made an astonishing claim that Liverpool should be banned from the Champions League. Laurentiis has accused Liverpool and Serie A giants AS Roma for breaking UEFA rules by having the same owner.

UEFA guidelines do not permit two clubs owned by the same owner or company to take part in the Champions League competition.

Recently  Aurelio de Laurentiis had a talk with Gazetta Dello Sport, said: “I have the feeling that Roma and Liverpool have the same owner.“I was told by somebody a few years ago and if it was true they would not be allowed to play the Champions League.”

But, Express understands Liverpool and Roma’s supporters have nothing to be worried about.

The Merseyside club is owned by The Fenway Sports Group, who took over the ownership back in 2010.

American businessman James Pallet, meanwhile, has owned the majority of the stake at the Italian outfit AS Roma since 2011. Pallet also has shares in NBA team Boston Celtics.

Liverpool owners Fenway, also own the Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox.

Author’s Take:

From my side, I don’t think Liverpool need to worry about it. As the report understands, both the two clubs don’t have the same owner and therefore, they won’t be much concerned about this.
