Here is the predicted India XI for the T20I against Ireland.
India play their first of the two T20Is against Ireland today. This series is going to provide some match practice ahead of India’s important series against England. Here, we have a look at the squad that the visitors could play against Ireland.
Here’s the squad:
KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan
The prime combo for India in limited overs cricket is expected to change after Rohit’s poor form in the IPL. Shikhar too had a not so good IPL by his standards, but he picked up form in the historic Test match against Afghanistan. KL Rahul had his best IPL season ever. He looked absolutely flawless and his orthodox shots overshadowed the unorthodox ones, which makes him a delight to watch.
India captain Virat Kohli is the obvious choice at No. 3 followed by Mr. IPL Suresh Raina at 4. With these four at the top, India have the opportunity to play with Left-Right combination and make it difficult for the bowlers to settle with their line and length.
At No. 5, previous incumbent Manish Pandey is likely to be dropped, and MS Dhoni could get a role higher up the order. Dhoni did exceedingly well playing at #4 and #5 in the IPL, recording his best ever season. Kohli and Dhoni will look to set up a platform with their quick running between the wickets before the late order acceleration.
Lower Middle Order:
Dinesh Karthik, or DK, should be coming in at #6. Karthik has hit a purple patch since the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka, having played a starring role in the final. He continued in that vein in the IPL, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the semi-finals with both his finishing abilities and captaincy. Hardik Pandya, the big-hitting all-rounder, should follow suit. With the Irish conditions offering swing to the bowlers, Pandya will be getting his quota of 4 overs. With Bumrah not relying much on swing, he can be the opening bowler.
India’s new-found stars Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are wrist spinners and can turn the ball even on pitches that don’t offer much turn. They will be India’s first choice spinners today.
Any questions? Bhuvneshwar ‘Swing King’ Kumar and Jasprit ‘Yorker Expert’ Bumrah. Pandya will most likely share the new ball with Bhuvi and Bumrah will come in later to sniff out crucial breakthroughs.
India will be hoping for their players to get in form just before the England series and this Ireland series is a great opportunity. This squad is ideal for the visitors if they want their already in-form players to get used to the conditions and get some match practice.
