Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has issued a public backing for his manager Zinedine Zidane
Real Madrid’s season took another turn for the worse at the weekend; Los Blancos were held 0-0 by Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés. Prior to the game, Barcelona dropped points against Celta Vigo with a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou. It was the perfect opportunity for Zidane’s men to cover the gap between them and Barcelona, but Los Blancos were unable to capitalize. Real now find themselves 4th in La Liga, 8 points behind Barcelona and level on 28 points with 5th placed Sevilla.
Rumours started swirling regarding Florentino Perez being on the lookout for a new manager. Speculated targets included the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel. However, Perez has now moved to openly back his manager and declared that Zidane is the best manager for his team.
“He is the best leader for this team”
Madrid President offered a public vote of confidence to Zidane, nipping the rumours of Zidane’s departure in the bud.
“We have a team to keep dreaming with a wonderful trainer in Zinedine Zidane who has achieved everything with Real Madrid, the team of his life.”
“He is one of our great symbols, one of the biggest icons who brings together the values and talent necessary to be the leader of one of the best squads we have ever had. He is the best leader for this team.”
“You are witnessing history in a 12-time European Champion. We achieved what seemed impossible, winning three Champions League titles in four years and also back-to-back European titles.”
“Last season was the most successful in club history but we want to improve and grow even more.”

Real Madrid’s crown jewel Cristiano Ronaldo has been arguably their most disappointing player this season. Despite the Portuguese’s dismal return of 2 goals in 10 La Liga games, Perez backed his star man saying, “Ronaldo is also one of our icons and the greatest goalscorer in the history of the club, he’s going to win his fifth Ballon d’Or shortly.”
Zinedine Zidane has led Madrid through its most successful period in the 21st century. In spite of his undoubted success, several critics have pointed out the fact that Zidane’s never had to show his tactical skills. Madrid’s success has been down to a superlative squad and the Frenchman ability of man-management. I believe that he still deserves more time at the helm of Real Madrid.
However, it all depends on Florentino Perez. Historically Perez has pulled the trigger in a matter weeks after a ‘public backing’ for his manager. Let’s hope that he shows a little more patience with the club legend.
