Paul Pogba was promised a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona and NOT United in 2016

Manchester United star Paul Pogba was reportedly promised a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid by Mino Raiola BEFORE he rejoined the Red Devils in 2016.

Manchester United star Pogba is understood to be a Barcelona transfer target amid current uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford. The France international has endured a rocky relationship with Jose Mourinho over the last few months, fuelling talk of a sensational exit.

Manchester United have insisted Pogba is not for sale but Barcelona are hopeful that, by playing the long game, they can secure his signature. And the Manchester Evening News have now sensationally said that Raiola has had a transfer plan in the works for a while.

Two years ago, Pogba returned. It was a world-record £89million deal at the time and sent shockwaves around the footballing world.

Pogba had previously left Manchester United under a cloud, angering Sir Alex Ferguson by moving to Juventus. Yet the MEN say Raiola encouraged his return. However, the super-agent told Pogba that, should he spend three years at Old Trafford, he would broker him a move to Spain.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only two clubs who have the financial muscle to lure the player away from the Premier League. Real were linked with Pogba two years ago and were the player’s first choice. But Barcelona are now frontrunners for his signature and a stunning transfer could happen.

Pogba recently fuelled talk of a move to Catalonia by openly responding to talk surrounding his future. “I’m under contract,” he said when questioned about Barcelona.

“There were little things with the coach [Mourinho], the relationship is always the same. We have goals in common, we want to win, that’s all that matters. As long as you do not see me with the Barcelona jersey, it’s because I’m in Manchester. It will always be rumours.”

Author’s Take:

Pogba has been linked to Barcelona since forever now. He was linked in 2016 before he came to United and he has been linked now as well. Now, it’s upto him if he wants to go as Barcelona doesn’t come around very often.
