Paul Pogba hails Rashford and Mbappe as ‘future of football’

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba believes that his club teammate Marcus Rashford and fellow countrymen Kylian Mbappe are the ‘future of football’. The two players have been integral to both their respective teams in recent seasons.

Since making his first-team debut in 2015, Rashford has made a huge impact both on and off the field. The 23-year-old winger has scored the most goals for United since making his debut and has made close to 300 appearances for the club. He has already won the Europa League, FA Cup, and the EFL Cup so far at Old Trafford. The next step for him would be to win the Premier League title with his boyhood club.

Mbappe, meanwhile, is one of the best players in the world. He has scored 106 goals in just 123 games for Paris Saint-Germain since his £173 million move from Monaco in 2017. He has already won two Ligue 1 titles and multiple domestic cup competitions for the French club.

Both players will look to add European honours for their respective teams this season. Rashford’s United are just two wins away from their second Europa League triumph in four years, whereas Mbappe will look to fire PSG to their first-ever Champions League title this season.

Pogba on Rashford and Mbappe:

Paul Pogba hailed both Rashford and Mbappe. The former Juventus midfielder said that both the players are ‘talented stars’ and are the ‘future of football’. Speaking in a Q&A with United Review, Pogba said:

“They [Rashford and Mbappe] are two big, big talents. They are also so young and so talented. They achieved so much for their young age. I think they are the present and future of football.”

Pogba has played 168 games together with Rashford, the most he has ever played with any teammate in his career. They both have been key to United this season, as they lie second in the league table and two wins away from winning their second Europa League title.

Whereas with Mbappe, Pogba has won the FIFA World Cup in 2018 for France, with both of them scoring in the final against Croatia. In all, they have together played 31 times for the Les Bleus.

Rashford vs Mbappe – who is better?

Before the comparison, there are some similarities between the two players. Both are excellent and versatile attackers capable of playing across the entire attack. They are excellent dribblers as well.

Mbappe is arguably one of the best players in the world right now. This season, the 22-year-old forward has scored 25 goals and provided 7 assists in just 25 league starts. He is also the Champions league leading goal-scorer this season with 8 goals to his name. His unreal performances have seen him get an overall WhoScored rating of 7.58.

Meanwhile, Rashford has also enjoyed a very fruitful campaign. He is somewhat shy of Mbappe’s goal contributions, with only 18 league goals contributing to his name this season. But that is largely down to how United play. He still has scored six Champions League goals this season, very impressive given the Red Devils exited the competition in the group stage. The Englishman still has a respectable 7.18 overall WhoScored rating this season.

Statistically, Mbappe is a better player than Rashford. But both are young and time to develop to compete further in future. At the moment, Mbappe just manages to pip Rashford.
