Paris Saint Germain Forward Lined up as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Replacement (Not Neymar)

According to the latest reports the Los Blancos have reportedly lined up Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani as the replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

When Cristiano Ronaldo announced that he would be leaving Real Madrid to join Serie A champions Juventus earlier last week for a fee of €105 million the whole footballing world was sent into shock. The 33-year-old Portugal captain left the Santiago Bernabeu as the club’s all-time top goalscorer notching up an astonishing 450 goals. However, Ronaldo’s departure meant that there will be a massive void that needs to be filled in the Spanish capital with a lot of big names lined up.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Paris Saint Germain’s Neymar have been the two most likely names that are linked to replacing Ronaldo. But another name from the Ligue 1 side has joined that list at its PSG’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.

Cavani To Madrid?

The highly prolific goalscorer has been performing at the top level in Europa for quite some time now and Real Madrid is planning a shocking swoop for him this summer. The 31-year-old center-forward netted 40 times in 48 appearances for PSG last term and scored 49 goals in 50 appearances in the previous season.  Lethal, hardworking, professional and efficient, Cavani fits all the traits that Ronaldo possesses. Cavani’s two goals in the Round of 16 also knocked out Ronaldo’s Portugal in the FIFA World Cup this summer.

Cavani is tied down to the Parc Des Princes until 2020 and has two years left on his current deal with PSG. However, the hitman is considering joining Real Madrid as the Spanish club is setting their sights on the former Napoli man. And the Ligue 1 champions would not mind letting go of Cavani if an offer for around €100 million came in given the Financial Fair play rules that the Parisians are renowned for breaching.

Author’s Take-

I think that it may sound strange but Cavani actually has a great record at scoring goals and all his attributes are quite similar to that of Ronaldo. However, Ronaldo was more clinical and did not waste too many chances while Cavani is known to miss a few sitters at times.
