England won the toss and invited India to bat first in the ODI opener in Pune. The hosts managed to post a big total of 317/5 in their quota of 50 overs. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma added 64 runs for the opening stand.
Rohit got out after scoring 28 off Ben Stokes’ bowling. But Shikhar went about his business and scored 98 with the help of 11 boundaries and 2 maximums. On the other hand, Virat Kohli scored 56 to his credit including 6 fours.
Dhawan and Kohli took the game away from the visitors with a 105-run stand. After both the batsmen got out, the likes of KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya took the attack to the cleaners by adding a 112-run partnership.
KL Rahul scored 62 off 43 deliveries with the help of 4 fours and 4 sixes. Krunal Pandya scripted history by becoming the fastest batsman to score a fifty on the ODI debut. He took 26 balls to score his maiden fifty.
Rohit Sharma reacts to Rishabh Pant question
Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant get along well with each other. They share a great deal of camaraderie both on and off the field. Rohit played the ODI opener against England in Pune whereas Pant was benched.
A video surfaced on Twitter involving Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant is doing the rounds on social media. Every now and then, these two stalwarts don’t shy away from keeping their fans engaged in their activities.
This time around, the young wicket-keeper batsman captured the video clip of his senior Rohit Sharma taking a COVID test. As soon as Rohit completes the test, Pant asked how was the test while recording the video.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma doesn’t know how to react quickly as he simply showed the middle finger to him just like that. It’s not that Rohit is angry at Pant but it really goes to show that the bond between them is that good.
India seal the ODI opener
Indian bowlers did a sensational job by taking all the ten wickets. At first, England opening pair Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy provided a ray of hope with a blistering 135-run partnership in 14 overs.
However, Indian bowlers made a great comeback in the 15th over. Prasidh Krishna who made his ODI debut dismissed Jason Roy for 46 (7 fours, 1 six). But Bairstow went about his business and scored a vital 94 off 66 balls (6 fours, 7 sixes).
Shardul Thakur dismissed Bairstow in the first ball of the 23rd over. In the end, England was bowled out for 251. Prasidh Krishna became the first bowler to take four wickets on ODI’s debut. Shardul Thakur accounted for three dismissals.
Dhawan was named the man of the match. The second fixture will kick-off at the same venue on March 26, Friday. It is a must-win match for England in order to stay alive in the series. On the other hand, India are just a win away from sealing the series.
