Official- Manchester City Sign Star Winger From Premier League Rivals

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City opened their account for the summer transfer window after completing the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

Manchester City is growing from strength to strength and Guardiola is stopping at nothing to improve his squad even further. The Premier League champions smashed plenty of records as they stormed to the title last season but the Spanish manager believes that there is still room for improvement in his team.

City, therefore, has made their first signing of the summer after Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez joined the Blue half of Manchester in a deal worth €68 million on a five-year contract. The Algerian midfielder will don the number 26 jersey for the Citizens.

Mahrez Happy To Join Manchester City-

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 27-year-old expressed his delight at joining Manchester City and looking forward to playing under his new manager, “I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola, Watching them from afar has been a pleasure. Pep is committed to playing attacking football, which is perfect for me, and City’s performances last season were outstanding. They’re redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it.”

Mahrez added that he hopes to bring success in the future and wants to develop his game further under the Spaniard, “I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management.”

During Leicester City’s fairytale run to win the Premiership, Mahrez was the talisman for the Foxes back in the 2015/16 season, winning the PFA award that year. Manchester City was close to signing Mahrez back in January only for a breakdown in negotiations about the transfer fee.

Author’s Take-

Mahrez is a player of immense quality and he will be a massive addition to Guardiola’s squad. The City boss now has a massive headache in deciding his starting eleven but strength in depth is key if City is to keep hold of their title and probably win the Champions League as well.
