Official: Bayern Munich Star Joins Barcelona In €20 Million Deal

Barcelona has agreed on a deal with Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal on a three-year contract with only the medical left to be completed.

Since the departure of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho, Barcelona has added two Brazilian midfielders Arthur Melo and Malcolm to their squad. And the Catalonian club and have confirmed that Chilean star Arturo Vidal will be joining them shortly. The Bayern Munich star spent three seasons at the Allianz Arena winning the Bundesliga on all three occasions with the German giants.

Confirmation of the Deal-

A statement on Barcelona’s official website announced that they had come to an agreement with Bayern Munich regarding a deal for the transfer of Vidal, “FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Arturo Vidal. The agreement with Arturo Vidal is for the next three seasons and is pending medical review that the player will pass in the coming days. FC Barcelona will soon inform of the arrival of the player and the agenda of the presentation.”

There were a number of clubs interested in the services of Vidal this summer and the 31-year-old was linked with a move back to the Serie A as well with Inter and Milan monitoring his situation. Vidal won the Italian league four seasons in a row with Juventus during his four-year spell at Turin.

However, Barcelona managed to swoop in for Vidal and managed to bring him to the Camp Nou at a fee of just €20 million as he did not plan to extend his contract with Bayern which was due to expire at the end of this season.

Vidal’s Thank You Message To Bayern-

On the official Bayern website, Vidal posted a farewell message to the Munich fans and said, “Thanks to Bayern and all the fans. I really enjoyed my time in Munich, I would like to thank the club for giving me another chance to take on a new challenge in Barcelona.”

Author’s Take-

Vidal becomes the fourth major signing for Barcelona this summer transfer window and he should add some real energy to Barcelona’s midfield. However, at 31 years of age, I don’t think that he was the best of options but he will add the experience of a high level to the club.
