Lack of threat in front of the goal has seriously jeopardized Arsenal’s performance in the past, whereas even Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t been very good in front of the goal. In the previous season of Premier League, Arsenal scored just 55 goals, which was even behind West Ham United who scored 62 goals.
It’s not that Arsenal do not have good Strikers, the Gunners might have one of the best striking duos in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
The main problem is that Arsenal lack creativity. Even Spurs have the same problem. They have one of the best striker in the league in Harry Kane but not much creativity. This problem is jeopardizing the progress of both the North London clubs.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interested in Houssem Aouar
According to a report from Le10sport, Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing Aouar. As both the clubs are in for attacking midfielders in this transfer window, Houssem Aouar seems to have been a target for both.
The attacking midfielder is reportedly available only for £20 million. The Gunners were in for Aouar last summer but they could not reach an agreement with Olympique Lyonnais. Arsenal were not interested in paying Lyon’s asking price of £55 million.
But Lyon have significantly reduced their asking price. Houssem Aouar has had a poor season in the past one year. Aouar contracted COVID-19 during the early stages of the campaign. He also later sustained a thigh injury due to which he missed a few games. Throughout the season, he was not comfortable due to the lingering injury problem.
The 23-year-old featured in 30 games in Ligue 1 last season. He scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists. While Lyon are desperate to offload some players due to their losses. According to a report from Get French Football News, the Ligue 1 club has suffered massive losses due to the Pandemic. The report suggests Lyon estimate losses of €150 million.
Arsenal has advantage over Spurs
While trying to look at which club holds an advantage over the other for the signature of Houssem Aouar, it looks likely that Arsenal has the advantage.
The Gunners as a brand are bigger than Spurs. They have a massive fan base and appeal across the world compared to Tottenham Hotspur. They might be out of form for a while now, but they are still regarded as one of the top clubs in the World.
Arsenal, even in their worst period, had won a trophy. Less than a year ago, Arsenal grabbed their 14th FA Cup trophy by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final at the iconic Wembley stadium. While Tottenham’s last trophy came in 2008, that is 11 years ago. It is no secret that Aouar is more likely to win trophies at Arsenal.
Spurs finishing above Arsenal to qualify for the newly inducted UEFA Europa Conference League could be a blessing in disguise for Arsenal. They would not have to travel to faraway places across Europe. The rebuild process at Arsenal could go smoothly without the gruelling travel on Thursdays. It might lead to massive improvement for the club and they can challenge for Top 4 in stronger terms.
