T20 World Cup 2021- One of the most surprising moments in Indian cricket came on Tuesday when it was announced that former Indian captain MS Dhoni would mentor India’s team in the upcoming T20 World Cup without charging any fee.
MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August last year, was announced as the team’s mentor in September.
Dhoni has led the Indian team in all the past six editions of the World Cup. Under his leadership, the Indian team won the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Also, the Indian team has struggled in ICC events in the past couple of years. His addition would give a boost to India’s chances.
The announcement regarding MS Dhoni’s fee was done by Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary. The news spread like wildfire as fans praised the 40-year-old for his decision.
India will start their campaign on 24th October against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both the teams last played against each other during the group stage of the ODI World Cup 2019.
MS Dhoni Likely be the Voice of the Team
BCCI has already announced the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup. However, there are some underlying problems in the squad. Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder in the team didn’t bowl a single over during the UAE leg of the IPL. Dhoni is likely to play a huge role in the final team selection.
The former Indian captain will feature in the final of the IPL on Thursday. His team will be playing the last game of the season against either Delhi Capitals or Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhoni will be eyeing for the fourth title with the CSK franchise.
T20 World Cup 2021: The Last of Virat Kohli
It will be the last time that we see Virat Kohli leading the Indian side in a T20I competition.
Virat announced that he would be stepping down as India’s captain in the T20Is post the world cup. Virat replaced Dhoni as the captain of the team and will be teaming up with him once again to win the world cup.
He also stepped down from the position of the captain of the RCB franchise in the IPL. He played his last game as the captain against Kolkata Knight Riders during the Eliminator.
