MS Dhoni excluded from India’s training camp to be organised by BCCI!

Team India is expected to resume training with a training camp organized by the BCCI.

Cricket is finally back after a prolonged 117-day hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has been working relentlessly towards the resumption of the sport in the country.

The upcoming 13th edition of the IPL will be the first tournament featuring Indian cricketers post the COVID-19 outbreak. Virat Kohli and Co. will hit the ground running with a national training camp organized by the BCCI.

The upcoming edition of the IPL will take place in the UAE between September 19 and November 8. The BCCI is planning to organize the training camp under bio-secure environments in the lead up to the tournament.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni will not be a part of the training camp

The development has led to many asking whether former Indian skipper MS Dhoni will be a part of the setup. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman last played for India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

Dhoni had earlier begin training for IPL 2020, initially scheduled to kick-start on March 29. The Ranchi-born cricketer however had to leave training midway after the tournament was suspended due to the pandemic.

It has however come to light that Dhoni will not be a part of BCCI’s training camp. The camp, which will take place at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, will only feature players contacted under the BCCI.

Dhoni did not have his name in the 2019-20 contracts list announced by the BCCI in January earlier this year. The veteran had not played any competitive cricket post the World Cup and hence was dropped from the contracts list.

Therefore, Dhoni’s participation in the camp is not possible, at least on technical grounds. As of now, here is list of players who will take part in the training camp in Ahmedabad.
