Jose Mourinho gives Manchester United a transfer deadline for his next target

The Manchester United boss is known to get his business done as early as possible and wants another addition to his squad done before the World Cup begins in Russia this Thursday.

Manchester United have been urged by the Portuguese tactician to complete a deal for another transfer target as early as Thursday according to the M.E.N. It has also been reported that the club is willing to offer a new deal to Marcus Rashford which includes a better paycheck, after the conclusion of the tournament in July.

It is no secret that the Red Devils are keen on a central defender with Toby Alderweireld being the preferred choice. But recent reports have claimed that the Spurs defender is one of the eight shortlisted as the club deliberate fulfilling the extraordinary demands of Daniel Levy. The Belgian wants a move away from North London to improve his chance of winning a league title besides improving his bank account.

Further speculation has seen ESPN linking United to a certain Wigan teenager who is also believed to monitored by the two Merseyside clubs. Joe Gelhardt, still 16, has been prolific for the Wigan under-18 side and the Premier League clubs will be testing Wigan’s resolve to keep the goalscorer. But with United’s under-18s littered talented forwards like Nishan Burkart and the emergence of the teenage prodigy, Mason Greenwood, it’s tough to see if Gelhardt is worth the chase.

Author’s take-

Manchester United will be better off signing an experienced centre-half like Alderweireld even if they end up paying over the odds. With pressure constantly increasing on Mourinho this is not the time to blood youngsters and Bailly, Lindelof, and Tuanzebe below 25, the backline is crying out for a leader, with experience to marshal them to their 21st league title and a first under the charismatic Portuguese while the Marcus Rashford news is definite to put some smiles on Mancunian faces.
