Ex-Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has slammed Blues boss Antonio Conte blaming him for the reason behind leaving the club.
There is still a lot of speculation regarding whether Antonio Conte will remain at Stamford Bride or not after a rather unpleasant second season in charge of the club. Conte won Chelsea the Premier League title in his debut season in England but had an extremely poor defence to the Premiership as the West London club finished 5th this term ineligible to play Champions League football for next season.
Plenty of pundits have blamed Antonio Conte’s tactics and his inability to keep hold of star players allowing them to leave the club. However, one former player at Chelsea in the form of John Obi Mikel has also added his opinion as to why Conte is currently facing the sack from the Chelsea board.
John Obi Mikel Opens Up On Conte-
Speaking to The Sun, Mikel slammed Conte blaming him as the reason for the Nigerian’s move to China a year ago, “Definitely it was the right time [to leave] because when you have a manager who… you have to come in whoever you are – manager or player – there are people who have been there before who made this club what it is today.”

The 31-year-old midfielder also added that Chelsea is a club that is built over a number of star players coming together and Conte disrupted that growth when he wanted to change his tactics at Stamford Bridge, “Chelsea was nowhere near what it is 10, 15 years ago. There are players that build and build and build, and then it’s all about respect. When you don’t get that from a manager who comes in and after five minutes decides to make a change you deal with it, you move on. My connection with the club has not changed because of the manager or because of a certain person.”
Mikel helped Chelsea to win the Premier League with Conte before moving to Tianjin. The Blues managed some silverware this season by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final a couple of weeks ago but that may not save Antonio Conte from getting the sack.
Mikel was never really good enough to play for a club like Chelsea as many of the Chelsea faithful may themselves speak out. However, it’s his opinion on what he felt about Conte and possibly the reason as to why he left the club, but a manager will have some influence on the club if he is to make his mark on the team.
