Mesut Ozil posted a tweet before the Arsenal Europa League fixture against Rapid Vienna to show his support for the team. He’s got the backing from Mikel Arteta in doing so.
The German playmaker has recently been omitted from the 25 men squad for the Premier League. He was earlier deducted from the Europa League squad as well.
The reason for his non-involvement is still unknown. The club just stroke him off with his contract running down next summer. Whether it’s pay cut or fitness issues, Ozil won’t play any further part in an Arsenal shirt.
But Ozil didn’t allow his strain relationship with the board come in the way. He may have not got the license to support his team on the pitch by his performance but he backed his teammate on social media.
Mesut Ozil backs Arsenal on Twitter
Ahead of the Europa League opener against Rapid, Ozil took to Twitter to post his support message. ‘When I can’t support on the pitch tonight, I will support in front of the TV in London, ‘ he posted.
The World Cup winner also asked fans for the prediction of the game. He went for a 4-1 away win. His predicted score-line was nowhere close though. Instead, Arsenal had to fight hard for the win in Austria.
It was Rapid Wien who took the lead after goalkeeper Bernd Leno gifted them their goal. However, David Luiz and Aubameyang scored late to prevent any sort of upset and came back with three points.
Previously, Ozil has kept his voice for his team after memorable triumphs. In the FA Cup win over Chelsea last season, Ozil congratulated his teammates while away at Turkey.
Arteta praised Mesut
After the game, Mikel Arteta appreciated Mesut Ozil’s support when questioned about his social media activity. He says it is ‘great’ to see him getting involved even after the club has looked away from him.
Arteta said, “It’s great. This is what I want from the players who aren’t in the squad. I didn’t expect anything different from that, so it’s good to hear.’ The Spaniard continues to bach him despite the situation.
Earlier, Mikel Arteta publicly admitted that it was his failure as a manager to not keep Ozil in the squad. After the game, Arteta assured that the situation around Ozil is not a distraction.
” No, ” he replied when questioned about it, “take it in a natural way, I try to respond with honesty and clarity and give the information that is available from the inside.” Sadly, Ozil has only this job to perform at the club.
