In 2013, Arsenal stunned everyone by roping in Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a club-record fee of £43 million. He was a fantastic playmaker under legendary manager Arsene Wenger. He was so good that he often provided assists and countless goal-scoring chances.
Mesut Ozil won 3 FA Cups and 3 Community Shields as a player at Arsenal. All the trophies which Ozil won came during Wenger’s managerial career. Following Arsene’s exit from the club, Mesut Ozil was not the same as before. He never got chances to shine under Unai Emery.
When Emery left Arsenal after 18 months in charge of the club, Mikel Arteta took the helm. Though Ozil got chances to play in his position earlier, he was then ignored by the club for some reasons. The Arsenal team management removed Ozil from the squad. The former German footballer was not part of the team set-up that won the FA Cup and Community Shield under Arteta’s guidance.
Ozil’s last competitive match appearance for Arsenal came on March 7 this year. It was his last match before the UK ran through the first nationwide coronavirus lockdown. The 32-year-old didn’t play a single game for Arsenal since then.
The playmaker has been quite active on Twitter by coming up with posts in favor of the club. Ahead of the match, he backs his teammates via Twitter as he encourages the players to do well.
Mesut Ozil agent opens up on playmaker’s future at Arsenal
With Mesut Ozil not part of Arteta’s plans, it is certain that his future at Arsenal looks almost over. In addition, his contract is less than a year away from getting expired. There is absolutely no idea about Ozil’s future.
As the January transfer window is just around the corner, Ozil may leave this January or in the next summer. With the next transfer window just over two weeks away from opening, Ozil’s agent Sogut chipped in with an update on the playmaker’s future.
Sogut said that a lot of clubs are currently observing his present situation. Despite being axed from the squad, Ozil still remains loyal to Arsenal Football Club. He has 33 goals and 54 assists to his name in 184 PL appearances for Arsenal.
“Even one day is a long time in football, you never know. Of course, there are many clubs interested in catching him. He’s a man of his word, loyal, and loyalty is hard to find in these times,” Sogut told Tuttomercatoweb.
Sogut on Mesut’s current situation
The former German international penned a three-year contract in 2018 with a weekly wage of £350,000. Ozil’s agent knows how hard the playmaker has been putting efforts to train harder than ever. Mesut Ozil had recently posted pictures from training as well.
“He is training harder than ever. At home, he has a gym, in the garden and in the garage. So in addition to the work he does with the club, he also trains at home, alone,” Ozil’s agent added in a statement.
When asked about Mesut’s absence from the squad, the agent said- “It’s a shame that Mesut isn’t playing. Of course, everyone focuses on his salary and I also understand why. But from a personal perspective, I say it’s a waste considering his talent and creativity. I talked to Arsenal a few days before the summer transfer campaign and I told them about Mesut’s feelings, his desire to stay and how much he loved the club and they never told me he wouldn’t be on the list.”
