Lionel Messi has hailed Antoine Griezmann as a ‘great player’ and would love to have him as a teammate
With World Cup just 7 days away, the transfer window has taken a back seat for the players. However, several transfer sagas are still at the forefront of the fans’ conscious. Most notable ones being Nabil Fekir to Liverpool, Jorginho to Manchester City and Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona. The latter has been a particularly long one in the making with the player seemingly on the verge of exit for the past 12 months. Barcelona are the odds-on favourite to sign the Frenchman and now their star man has given his views on the 27-year-old.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Lionel Messi revealed:
“I have always said it. It is easy to get along with great players and Griezmann is one of the best. He is going through an exceptional time in his career.”

If this move does materialise, Barcelona will have an embarrassment of riches in the final third of the pitch. It will be incredible for the fans but Ernesto Valverde will have a huge problem at his hands. Messi, however, was not concerned with this issue. For him, it was a case of the more the merrier. He added:
“The coach will then look at how he fits everyone in but he is obviously a great player and we would click together.”
“Whether Griezmann comes or not is up to the coach, it is still not 100 per cent, but obviously the more quality we have the better. We want to be the best team in the world and to achieve that we want to have the best – then it’s the coach’s problem.”
The Argentine, meanwhile, will be looking to go one step further than 2014’s exploits and lead his nation to their first World Cup triumph since 1986.
Griezmann, Messi, Suarez, Dembele and Coutinho will be difficult to fit in a playing eleven. Such attacking talent is sure to leave the Blaugrana short at the back. However, Barca fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of seeing all of them bracing the pitch at Camp Nou in the colours of Los Cules.
