Barcelona forward Lionel Messi believes a Neymar move to Real Madrid would be a ‘huge blow’ for the Catalans.
It was only last summer that Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr left the Camp Nou and joined French giants Paris Saint Germain for a fee of 222 million euros. Now there have been multiple rumors surrounding Neymar’s future at PSG claiming that Real Madrid will be the Brazilian’s next destination. However, while almost all of Neymar’s former team-mates have voiced their opinions about a potential move to Real Madrid, Lionel Messi has finally had his say.
Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi, however believes that if the move materializes, then it would spell bad news for the Blaugrana. In an interview with TyC Sports, Messi said: “It would be terrible [if Neymar moved to Madrid] because of everything he means to Barcelona. Ney won important trophies here. He won the Champions League [and] La Liga [titles]. It would be a huge blow for everyone. It would make Madrid even stronger from a football point of view. I speak with him, so he already knows what I think.”
Along with Luis Suarez and Leo Messi, Neymar was part of one of the most feared strike partnerships in the history of the game. This combined strike force helped him to win the treble in the 2014-15 season with the club and a host of trophies along the way. Although Messi admits that the two still share a close relationship, the Argentine is prepared to face Neymar in the World Cup in Russia as rivals.
“Brazil are going into the finals in good form, despite the bad luck they had with the Neymar injury” the Argentinian said. “But he will be back flying quickly with his fitness levels. As a group, they work well, and they have great individuals. They can kill you on the counterattack with players like Ney, [Philippe] Coutinho, Gabriel Jesus and Paulinho.”
Both Messi and Neymar will hope to make a significant impact on the World Cup in Russia in June. Now beginning to cross 30-years of age. Messi is running out of time to clinch the World Cup and silence critics whereas Neymar who is currently 26-years still has a few more World Cups to work on.
Author’s take :
It is not certain whether Neymar will join Real as the 26-year-old is extremely attached to the Barcelona faithful. However, a return to La Liga does look convincing for the winger. Moreover, Neymar perfectly suits the Galacticos ideology followed by Real Madrid’s President Florentino Perez. Will it be another world record transfer fee? Definitely.
