Mankading is a type of dismissal that is deemed something against the spirit of the sport. For the unversed, Mankading is named after Indian international Vinoo Mankad.
This dismissal means running out the batsman at the non-striker’s end when he is trying to back up or outside the crease. There have always been mixed views about this kind of dismissal.
Needless to say, this practice is considered completely legal within the Laws of Cricket. Mankading became the most talked-about topic in the wake of the Ashwin-Buttler controversy in IPL 2019.
Since then, the game of cricket stumbled upon many such Mankading incidents during the passage of the play. The cricket fraternity has also witnessed a bowler giving warnings to the batsman if he backs up.
In fact, the bowler can warn the batsman because the latter gets an unfair advantage if he backs away too much from the crease. The sport should be played in the right spirit. Fans are certainly unhappy when a bowler Mankads a batsman even though the practice is within the rules of the game.
But when a non-striker attempts to steal a few yards, he is spared just like. But when a bowler oversteps the crease, he is penalized quickly. How come is this even permitted in the game?
Maeve Douma scripts history in the game of cricket
The cricket fraternity has witnessed players creating different records nowadays. However, in a rare case scenario, nobody must have thought that a bowler would Mankad as many as four batswomen.
This has never happened in the history of the game so far. Maeve Douma hogged the limelight when she became the first player to Mankad four different batswomen and that too in a single game.
This incident took place during the game between Cameroon and Uganda in the ongoing ICC women’s T20 World Cup Africa region qualifier. During the game, Maeve Douma stunned the Uganda cricket team by sending four batswomen to the dressing room.

Uganda cricket team posted a colossal total of 191 in their quota of 20 overs. In reply, Cameroon was skittled out for just 35 runs. As a result, Uganda won the game by a massive margin of 155 runs. Although Uganda won the game by a huge margin, the match is remembered for Maeve Douma’s presence of mind.
India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was on the receiving end after Mankading Jos Buttler in IPL 2019. Jos Buttler was mankaded when he was batting 69 in the 185-run chase against Kings XI Punjab in Jaipur. This particular incident left a bad taste in the mouth of the audience, cricketers, and cricket experts.
Ravi Ashwin backed his way of dismissing Buttler adding that it is well within the rules of the sport. Former Indian bowler and current commentator Murali Kartik took to Twitter and wrote: “Maeva Douma I will remember the name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾“
