With Chelsea looking for a replacement for Antonio Conte, the Blues have turned towards the Premier League but have had their advances rejected by their top target.
The Blues have struggled to retain their Premier League title or even put much of a fight against Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola and his men winning it with five games left in the season. But that has raised a bigger issue for Chelsea and the board are now searching for a brand new manager to replace the two-year-old Antonio Conte. The former Juventus boss hit pay dirt in his very first season with his tactics and went on to win the Premier League in his debut season.
However, since then budget, disagreements with the Chelsea board and a variety of other factors including new signings failing to live up to their potential has seen Chelsea struggle to maintain Champions League football, with the Blues finishing fifth in the Premier League. Not only that, they are in danger of losing both Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, as the La Liga giants look to rebuild their squad.
But with Chelsea looking to sack Antonio Conte before his contract with the club ends, the Blues have thus gone on to shortlist the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino and many others. The Tottenham boss is, however, among the top targets given his relative success with Spurs and his ability to turn good young players into even better ones.
However, reports have emerged that while Roman Abramovich has told Chelsea that he wants Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, the Tottenham boss is set to snub the Blues. The Argentian has also been courted by Real Madrid in recent times, but it looks like he is set to stay as he believes that the Tottenham board will back his claim to spend more money to buy silverware.
The former Southampton boss wants to successfully lead the club to a title but Tottenham has failed to launch any successful attempt at winning or even coming close to winning a Premier League title in recent times. Now with Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and even Dele Ali’s future in doubt, the other North London side needs to be careful of their future.
This is a massive blow to Chelsea as they lose out on a top and Premier League proved manager, but this does mean that Tottenham has a future to look forward to. However, Chelsea will have to go after other targets including Massimilano Allegri, Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery and many others.
