Mason Mount has been showcasing some top performances for Chelsea lately. The 22-year-old has become a pivotal part of the Blues’ squad. But yet find himself at the center of criticism on social media. The English midfielder has been performing consistently for both club and country.
However, many circles have been doubting the youngster despite his great efforts. Mason Mount was pretty great under Chelsea’s former manager Frank Lampard. And Lampard made sure to play Mount in almost all of Chelsea’s games. This led to much criticism from various circles. And Mount was also tipped as Frank Lampard’s pet project.
But neither Frank nor Mount was willing to talk on the matter. The former Chelsea manager also made Mason Mount the captain of Chelsea in his last game before the sack. However, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as his replacement led to doubts about Mount’s future.
Thomas Tuchel was fast to make changes to the squad from the start. However, Tuchel was seen dropping Mount from the squad in his initial game. This was right after Mason Mount got his first Chelsea captain armband. Hence, there were doubts on how Tuchel will decide on Mount’s future.
Mason Mount plays a pivotal role:
Despite not making it into Tuchel’s squad initially, Mason Mount is now a key player. The youngster was able to impress the German and ultimately secure a spot in the squad. Mason Mount has a total of 8 goals and 7 assists to his name for Chelsea in all competitions.
The midfielder was able to net his first Champions League goal against Porto in the first leg. Helping Chelsea to win the game in a 2-0 victory. Thanks to the first-leg triumph, Chelsea were able to qualify to the semifinals despite a 1-0 loss in the second leg. Mount has also been impressive for the England squad as well. Gareth Southgate has also been backing the player among various criticism.
“I was saying in the autumn that he is a very good player, I suppose now Thomas Tuchel picks him, everybody will agree.”- Gareth Southgate, via ESPN.
Mason Mount has started the last eight games for England. And is the only player to start all three of England’s World Cup qualifiers. Mount is also nearing a milestone as he will play his 100th game for Chelsea soon. The youngster may not be in the good books of many people. But Mason Mount surely has the talent to make his critics take back their doubts on him.
Chelsea can make a top-four finish:
Although winning the title may be a far stretch. Chelsea can easily secure a top-four finish this term. Thomas Tuchel and co have been displaying some amazing form lately. They were able to progress in the Champions League and also seal a big victory in the PL. However, Tuchel may still have to reconsider his attacking options.
Chelsea still have some uncertainty regarding their front three. Timo Werner still failing to spark his potential has cause Tuchel to ask Havertz to take the striker role. Havertz who was struggling himself in the past has now found his anchor. However, Havertz can’t always be a preferable option for Chelsea in the front.
Mason Mount has also been seen playing upfront at times. However, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount are more suited for a creative playmaker role. Hence, Tuchel will be focusing to fix his issue in the front soon. If Tuchel is able to get Timo Werner back to his destructive form. Chelsea will get a huge boost in the front, however, Werner may need some time to get to his best.
Despite the striker issue, Chelsea are able to find the back of the net. Tuchel has been able to make some major transformations since his arrival. The Blues are looking to reinforce their squad further in the summer. And hope to target the PL title in the next campaign.
