Manchester United should be on a mission in this transfer window. The final against Villarreal exposed United’s weakness yet again. When you look towards the bench to bring someone on, there are no good options available.
Dan James, Van De Beek, even Mata, or Matic haven’t had the best of impacts for Manchester United. This loss was a breaking point for Manchester United and the frustration was evident on Ole’s face.
The very next day there was a board meeting. Key figures sat down with the manager to talk about the way ahead. The club needs 3 good signings to add depth to their squad. A right-winger, a midfielder, and a good defender.
A move for Jadon Sancho is on the cards again. In defensive areas, United are hoping to go for Raphael Varane. For midfield, United have turned their attention to Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.
But United isn’t the only one interested in the Belgian’s services. Wijnaldum’s departure has left a hole and Liverpool are looking for replacements. Tielemans certainly fits the criteria for the former Champions. He has 9 goals and 6 assists to his name in this season.
The player has proven himself in the Premier League as a solid midfield presence. He led his team to the trophy with a wonder goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Both United and Liverpool want someone like that in their squads.
Manchester United could benefit from Leicester City’s failure to qualify for the Champions League
Leicester City will surely be disappointed with their finish in the Premier League. They have yet again squandered a top 4 finish after being in the top 4 for the majority of the season. They spent 325 days in the top 4, the highest for any team in the league.
However, it was not all bad for the Foxes as they did manage to get their hands on a trophy. Although missing out on the Champions League will sting a lot. It brings not only more revenue but another big reason for players to stay.
According to Belgian journalist Sven Claes, United are taking an interest in Youri Tielemans. Leicester City holds all the cards as Tielemans still has a contract till 2023. Whether the player wants to leave also remains a mystery.
In such a scenario the bid has to be lucrative enough for Leicester to agree. Former Leicester City striker Kevin Phillips gave this thought on the scenario. “I think everyone is available for the right price,”.
“I don’t think Brendan Rodgers would want Tielemans to go. However when Liverpool or United come knocking then the player is going to listen.” It is at this point where the lure of Champions League football becomes a factor in the player’s decision.
Leicester has a history of doing expensive business. Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell are prime examples of that. If United or Liverpool are serious about their interest they might have to pay big. An amount close to £60 million would be a decent price tag for Tielemans.
