Manchester United transfer boost as Liverpool drop interest in £34m ace

Manchester United are keen to bolster their defensive options this term. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bring in a reliable center-back to partner with Harry Maguire. The Red Devils were reportedly keeping close tabs on RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate. However, there were strong interest from Liverpool for the youngster.

Various sources made reports that Liverpool were keen to sign Konate in the summer. And that they were planning to activate his £34m release clause. However, it seems as though the reports may have been over-exaggerated. According to Bild, Liverpool are no longer considering making a move for the Frenchman.

The report explains that RB Leipzig made contact with Liverpool via a phone call. Among all the rumours linking Konate and the Anfield club. However, the Reds made it clear that they will not be pursuing Konate. This will be a huge transfer boost for Manchester United.

The Old Trafford side are keen to lure in the young Frenchman. However, they had to be cautious with the interest from Liverpool. But with the club confirming their final stance, United can be at ease for now. However, there are still various other clubs keeping an eye on the defender. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also reportedly keen to sign Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool and Manchester United target Konate

Liverpool’s change of plans:

Liverpool were prioritising the signing of the defender in the summer. And Ibrahima Konate was at the top of Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist. However, Liverpool seems to have changed their mind lately. The Reds are trying to sign Ozan Kabak on a permanent deal. The Turkish footballer has been impressive since his arrival on loan from Schalke.

In addition to Kabak, Klopp is also hoping to see his injury-prone defenders back in action. Liverpool are likely to see Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip back in action next season. Hence, Klopp is reconsidering his thoughts on signing new defensive players. The Reds instead are likely to concentrate on their midfield and attack.

With Gini Wijnaldum leaving on a free in the summer, the Reds need to reinforce their midfield. Also, Klopp is keen to add more destructive power in the frontline. However, Liverpool may be short on funds considering their current PL situation. Although they are just 2-points from the top-four. The race to a top-four finish will be a tough run and Liverpool may miss UCL qualification.

Also, Liverpool saw themselves on the back foot after their defeat against Real Madrid. The 3-1 defeat in the first leg will shatter their Champions League dreams. However, the second leg is in Anfield and the Reds hope to hold their fortress. Although their recent record at home has not been impressive.

Manchester United keen to reinforce their defence.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keen to strengthen his defence for a while now. The Norwegian did propose to sign some defenders last summer but was unable to find a proper deal last year. However, Manchester United are prioritising the signing of a center-back this summer. And Ibrahima Konate is at the top of their radar in the summer.

Ibrahima Konate is likely to partner up with Harry Maguire next season. If Manchester United are able to lure him to Old Trafford in the summer. Konate has been in impressive form for RB Leipzig alongside Dayot Upamecano. And United hope to see the youngster retain the same form at Old Trafford.

The withdrawal of Liverpool will be a huge boost for them. However, Chelsea are also reportedly keen to sign the defender. The Blues are searching for new defensive options. As Thiago Silva and Christensen may depart from Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea have not yet made any solid advancements.

Manchester United must make haste and make their options clear. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was closer to a PL victory this term than ever. Making a few tweaks in the lineup will help the Red Devils become a formidable side next term.
