Manchester United are ready to let Alex Telles leave the club just one year after joining the club. The Red Devils have a swap deal in mind which involves the Brazilain. Telles joined Manchester United late in the transfer window from Porto for a fee of $14 million. However, a resurgent Luke Shaw has kept him out of the first team.
When the Premier League was looking to add more competition at the left-back spot, their first choice was Sergio Regullion. But, Real Madrid insisted on a buyback clause and United did not agree to it. Eventually, the Spaniard moved to Tottenham and United signed Telles as a result of it. The left-back had a promising start to his United career which started with a 3-2 win over PSG.
A big reason for Telles’ limited game time has been an in-form Luke Shaw. The Englishman has often been injury prone but this season he has managed to stay fit so far. This season he has made 29 appearances for United in all competitions.
While Telles has been largely used as a rotation player by Ole Gunnar Solskjear. The Brazilian is now 28 years old and he is at his peak. At this age, he would want more game time. With his game time likely to be limited in near future as well, United has planned to use him in a creative way. A swap deal is being offered with Telles the player, the Red Devils are offering.
United looking to sign Inter midfielder
Ole Gunnar Solskjear’s side is keen to sign Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic. United are willing to offer Telles along with some cash to convince Inter to part ways with the Croatian. Currently, the former Porto left-back is valued at around $17 million.
The Red Devils plan to offer cash of a sum around $17- $26 million-plus Telles. The said news has been reported by Inter Live. Brozovic has been an Inter player for the past six years now, he is a top player at San Siro and other clubs in Europe have also shown interest in him.
The former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has been a key player for Antonio Conte. The Nerazzurri now have a four-point lead in the Serie A table. Though this season they failed to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Champions League as Inter finished bottom in their group.
Though the authenticity of the news is still in question but it can’t be completely ruled out as well. Inter have largely used Ivan Perisic as a left wing-back. It is clear that they are in need of a left-footed wing-back. The question now is whether Telles can be that player or not?
12th Man Opinion
United already has Fernandes and Pogba in the position where Brozovic operates. Even in case, Pogba leaves the club, they still have Donny Van de Beek, who is struggling for game time. Thus on paper, it hardly looks like a sensible move on United’s part.
Another thing to consider here is Inter Milan’s perspective. The Croatian is a key player for them and Conte is a big fan of the midfielder. Even if the Italians agree to part away with him, it will not be for a small fee. Though the pandemic has caused financial stress but still Inter is in a position to command a big fee for him.
Also, it does not appear that the player is keen on leaving the club. Though United has done well, they haven’t secured a top-four finish as of now. They are far away from challenging for the Premier League title. On the other hand at San Siro under Conte, Inter are building something big. They are challenging for the Serie A title.
The Nerazzurri are in need of a left football player but at Inter as well, Telles’ game time will be limited. Thus a move to San Siro would not suit him as well. United’s idea of using him in a swap deal is good but such a move should involve all the parties.
