Jose Mourinho is looking to bring in reinforcements to challenge Manchester City to the Premier League title and has thus targeted a Chelsea star to do so.
The Red Devils and Jose Mourinho are looking for reinforcements, as they look to push on for the Premier League title in the former Chelsea boss’ third season at Old Trafford. And with Barcelona looking to sell the star, six months on and with his market value skyrocketing thanks to the World Cup, Mourinho was keen to have the star.
However, now it looks like Everton have pipped Manchester United to Yerry Mina, with reports indicating that the club from Meryside and Barcelona have finally come to an agreement. They were the front-runners for the Colombian international but things petered out with Barcelona refusing to reduce the asking price for Marco Silva’s top target.
This allowed Manchester United and their overflowing cash reserves to take the lead, with West Ham, Lyon and a few others joining the race for the outcast. But it looks like Marco Silva has finally decided to pay the fee for the 23-year-old Camp Nou star, with the Red Devils stepping out of the race. However, Mourinho is still looking for a centre-back to add to his collection and has thus targeted a more Premier League proven replacement.
According to reports from the Metro and L’Equipe, Manchester United are now after Chelsea outcast Kurt Zouma. The talented centre-back was brought in by Jose Mourinho during his second tenure at Stamford Bridge but has struggled to make a lasting impact since his arrival. It further adds that Chelsea is reluctant to sell the Frenchman, despite the fact that Everton is also itching for a loan move.
For Manchester United, it has been a frustrating summer transfer window with moves for both Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire failing miserably, while another target Jerome Boateng looks like he will remain in Germany. Meanwhile, Paul Pogba has been permanently linked with a move away, along with Anthony Martial and David De Gea.
Manchester United need one more centre-back to strengthen their team but it seems that no a single one of Jose Mourinho’s targets are willing to move. However, Kurt Zouma is a valid fourth choice and if the Frenchman can remain fit, things could finally go Manchester United’s way.
