Manchester United join the race for another PSG star, as the Red Devils look to reinforce their squad for next season’s title race.
While a rampant Manchester City has claimed the title with five games to spare, it looks like Manchester United will have to settle for a meager second place. But even that hasn’t been confirmed with Liverpool looking to have a say in the matter, as they fight for a place in next season’s Champions League. However, despite spending heavily during last summer’s transfer window, Jose Mourinho and company have failed to live up to their expectations.
The Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League by a brave and masterful Sevilla performance at Old Trafford and despite producing an incredible comeback against Manchester City to deny them the title at the Etihad Stadium last week, a defeat to West Brom for the Red Devils was all Pep Guardiola’s men needed. However, despite all that their points at 77 is the highest they have achieved since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, but it shows that Manchester United still have work to do on repairing the team.
That’s exactly why Jose Mourinho is looking to reinforce his squad with reports that the former Real Madrid boss has targeted a new central midfielder, full-backs, and an unknown star. Luke Shaw has struggled to get game under Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager preferring Ashley Young, but the former Aston Villa man is growing older.
Which is why PSG star Layvin Kurzawa and even Juventus star Alex Sandro has both made the cut, but according to reports, Kurzawa is Mourinho’s main target. The 25-year-old has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 Champions, but Manchester United will join Chelsea and Tottenham in the race, with Kurzawa’s value only going higher if he makes Didier Deschamps France squad for the World Cup.
However, Manchester United do have the likes of Luke Shaw and Ashley Young, but the 22 year old joined Old Trafford from Southampton in 2014 for a then record fee for both a teenager and a defender at £30 million. However, since then Luke Shaw has consistently struggled with both injuries and form issues that has kept him out of the Manchester United squad, and now it looks like Jose Mourinho is ready to let him leave.
Jose Mourinho needs to follow Pep Guardiola’s lead and strengthen areas that need to be improved on, and fullbacks are exactly that. Selling Luke Shaw could be a wise move, but the English international has time on his side and Layvin Kurzawa would be a brilliant option for the Red Devils.
