Phil Jones has been part of the United squad for about a decade. But he has never been able to secure a permanent spot in the defense. United do have a number of defenders in their squad. Out of which Chris Smalling and Marcus Rojo are out on loan.
But it is a popular opinion that Jones was the one that should have left. While Smalling is having a wonderful spell at Roma, Jones has only got 8 appearances. Mostly being on the sidelines, Red Devils supporters have long been hoping for a replacement.

Considering the talent he has, it is likely the youngster will take up Phil Jones’s position in the squad. Axel Tuanzebe is also an equally good CB who recently got a chance. Hence, Mengi is also likely to impress the United boss if he is given the opportunity.
Even his under-23 coach Neil Wood believes he has a good future ahead of him. So we may soon see the youngster rise up the ranks and play for the main squad. Ole is also keen on nurturing young academy graduates. If Mengi is able to seize an opportunity he can be a regular in the lineup.

With Jones on the bench, Mengi will try to pursue a spot in the squad. Ole is keen to promote raw young talent. If Mengi can catch the Norwegian’s eye he can secure a bright future for himself. He has many more football years ahead of him. With sheer will and hard work he can surely rise up the ranks. Also, a young talent like Teden Mengi will be a great addition to Ole’s lineup.
