Andreas Pereira had a desperate campaign in Serie A this season. The loan move to Lazio was an opportunity for the player to claim more playing minutes in Old Trafford. But, he failed to find the momentum and the Italian setting hadn’t pleased the player so far.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder will return to England this summer to complete his remaining two years in Manchester contract. The return journey is not a piece of happy news for United and the player as the new setting in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has a different address.
Pereira sent for an Italian job last October expecting more playing time. He was not a first-line option in Ole’s strategy at Old Trafford. But, he had a long-term contract with the team which ties him up to the squad without opportunities.
The 25-year-old featured in 15 Serie A games this season for Lazio from which he got one goal and an assist (Transfermarkt). Former PSV Eindhoven midfielder was signed by Manchester United as a teenager back in November 2011.
Later, he made his senior team debut under Louis van Gaal after three years. He was a creative option in the side as a central midfielder. His right-foot cut-ins were able to dismantle the defensive line of opposition with more possession.
From 2017 onwards, he spent his career on loan outings and he played in Spanish sides Valencia and Granada. Staying out of the United environment erased his spot in the formation and Old Trafford kept updating with new playing strategies.
Now, Ole’s midfield has no vacancy to accommodate Periera. The last year’s arrivals, Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandez cemented their positions with a better display. Also, the presence of Scott McTominay, Fred, and Paul Pogba add more competition to the Brazilian in Manchester United.
Andreas Pereira: Transfer prospects
According to Dailystar, Lazio are not interested in offering a permanent deal for the midfielder. The financial mismatch is pointed as the reason for this. Pereira is valued as a £21 million option for Lazio to sign.
The current setting of the team won’t sanction that. Also, they are facing tough challenges within the competitions amidst the pandemic hit. Also, financial speculations are not favorable in the current scenario in Italy.
Andreas Pereira’s return to the English Premier League would add more confusion to Ole Gunner Solskjaer. Although, United are pushing hard in the title challenge. And to stay safe in the top four is the priority of the team.
Meanwhile, Old Trafford transfer plans are out in the market as the summer window is ready to open in Europe. There are multiple rumors in United’s incoming interests and the financial outlook is already out in Europe’s transfer market.
The Red Devils squad are getting an extra boost under Ole’s new playing style and they can lead a better campaign next season. For that, Manchester United should engage with strategic plans in the summer. Pereira’s case would be another issue for United to deal with the busy plans in summer.
