Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has stated the Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford should start instead of Alexis Sanchez in their FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
After a 2-0 win over Bournemouth, this weekend, ex-Manchester United player Paul Scholes has offered some advice to manager Jose Mourinho. The Englishman who is currently a pundit for BT Sport stated that the two youngsters Martial and Rashford would be better options than January arrival Alexis Sanchez for United’s semi-final encounter against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup at Wembley this Saturday evening.
The Chilean arrived at Old Trafford in this winter transfer window from Arsenal but has not had the kind of impact that many of the United faithful would have thought he would. Sanchez has scored just twice since making the switch to Old Trafford and with a string of poor performances drawing criticism from pundits and fans. After the weekend’s 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion, Sanchez came under fire again was dropped for last night’s league fixture against Bournemouth. And former midfield ace Paul Scholes has not been impressed by the 29-year-old’s showings in Mourinho’s attack.
Scholes Prefers Youngsters Over Sanchez-
The 43-year-old football pundit expressed his views over who should start alongside Romelu Lukaku in the attack in a crunch game against Spurs.” I think the big decision is who plays either side of (Romelu) Lukaku,’ Scholes said. ‘I’d go (Marcus) Rashford and (Anthony) Martial but I think he’ll probably bring Sanchez back into it. “, said Scholes.
Scholes went on to admit that Sachez has not yet found his feet at his new side and certain situations may decide that he is a liability rather than a boon, “I just don’t think his form has been good enough. I think he’s been quite predictable – we all know the talent he’s got. Obviously, there is a magnificent player in there but at Manchester United, he’s just not showing it yet. I think Martial and Rashford are a better option.” explained the United legend.
Maybe Scholes is right and wants United to win some silverware this season. There is obviously no denying that Sanchez is a great player and has the ability to single-handedly win games for his team. But at the moment he is unable to display any of that form which may result in being dropped again. Sanchez could come off the bench to change the game if required.
