Manchester United have now joined the race to sign Real Madrid superstar Mateo Kovacic, with the Red Devils looking to fortify their midfield.
Manager Jose Mourinho is keen on signing more players to his squad, as he looks to win more titles in the upcoming season, after a trophyless campaign.
He has already signed Fred and now feels that this star, who plays for the Los Blancos, can be really useful for his squad now.
The Mundo Deportivo confirms that the player who is keen on leaving the Bernabeu in the current transfer window due to a lack of game time, could be all set to move to Old Trafford, with the Premier League giants keeping tabs on him.
His main concern is to get regular football and for that, he could make the switch to United, who are themselves looking for more quality and a fresh flare.
They were poor when it mattered, due to which they ended up empty handed, despite making it to the finals of the FA Cup, where they lost to Chelsea.
Mourinho would be hoping that he can not just build a league winning side, but also a team that challenges for the Champions League in the near future.
Due to this, the player’s form for Croatia at the World Cup would also be something that might impact the decision, whether to sign him or not.
With that being said, Kovacic could be a good addition to the squad, who can really make a difference when it really matters, if his services are utilized correctly. He is quite capable and has played 73 games, scoring once for the La Liga giants. However, the arrival of the Brazilian might make United reconsider, whether or not they actually need to sign him now.
The future of Paul Pogba and a few other midfield superstars could also make an impact on this deal going through, as the Frenchman was being linked with a move away from The Theatre of Dreams as well. If Pogba does leave, then surely the Portuguese manager will have to look at alternatives to sign, to fill that void. If he stays, then it will be an interesting transfer saga, with the manager considering the fact whether or not he actually needs more midfielders.
