Manchester United deadwood listed into keep, sell, and loan categories

Manchester United have a big enough squad to mount a serious title challenge in any football league on this planet. But finding your first-eleven team and keeping faith in those eleven for most of the season is the key to success for any manager. Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needed to find his first eleven in the early games this season.

Solskjaer prefers having a big squad at his disposal. Last season we saw him playing his preferable first eleven but with enough rotational players in every position. We witnessed this at Old Trafford in the goalkeeping department last season. Both David de Gea and Dean Henderson were fighting for the number one spot. At the end of the last season, Henderson was the first choice keeper for the Europa League campaign and De Gea was preferred for Premier League fixtures.

This season Manchester United started transfer activity with bang. Long-term transfer target Jadon Sancho completed his Old Trafford moves last week for a reported transfer fee of just around £75m. Signing a right-winger and centre-back was always a priority for the Solskjaer.

New centre-back is imminent at Old Trafford. Manchester United are very close to sign world class central defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. They recently missed legendary figure Sergio Ramos, who rejected them for Paris Saint-Germain. Another La Liga ace Pau Torres and Serie A emerging star Nicola Milenkovic are also linked with possible move at Old Trafford.

Manchester United to sell nine player in this transfer window

Fringe players to be offloaded at Manchester United:

Anthony Martial: Sell

Former Maonaco forward was destined to be long-term project at Old Trafford. But lack of faith from head coaches has affected his career during his peak years. The 25-year-old French forward has been out of form since the arrival of striker Edinson Cavani. Uruguayan forward has cemented his place as first choice striker ahead of the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood. Greenwood has developed into reliable option, but signing a new striker when Cavani retires should be priority for the Red Devils. Selling Martial and using funds for other areas will be beneficial for Solskjaer.

Phil Jones: Sell

United are sure to sell the 29-year-old Engilsh centre-back. There were reports of Jones missing pre-season training preparations. It makes sense to sell Jones for both parties. Sir Alex Ferguson stated Jones to be future of United defence but player was unfortunate with constant injuries.

Donny Van de Beek: Keep

Van de Beek arrived at Old Trafford with high expectations but lack of minutes on the pitch was the reason of his failure. Paul Pogba, Fred, and Bruno Fernandes are now first choice midfield three with the likes od Matic, Juan Mata providing rotation options. United are also linked with Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez. Now he is strongly linked with away move with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona keeping eye on the former Ajax midfielder.

Daniel James: Loan

Former Swansea winger created big hype after his arrival at Old Trafford with strings of consistent performances. But versatile youngster was left behind during the reign of Solskjaer. He is now back up option behind Greenwood on right-wing position. With the arrival of Sancho, his chances of starting in first eleven are very rare. Loan move for regular minutes on the pitch is very clever move for the both parties.

Axel Tuanzebe: Sell

Tuanzebe showed his class with strong defending when Victor Lindelof was out injured. He was expected to partner captain Harry Maguire for the rest of the season but Solskjaer inducted Lindelof after his return from injury. The 23-year-old English centre-back is now now facing tough competition from Eric Bailly and maybe from another incoming defender. So selling him and getting funds to spend on Varane deal will be clever move from the management.

Brandon Williams:

Highly rated 20 years old full-back is next big thing in defence at Old Trafford. A possible loan move in Championship tier will be very crucial for the both parties. He is capable of playing on both flanks. Last season he was deployed to be back-up option to first-choice right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Diogo Dalot:

Another full-back who has lot of potential to be become one of the best in future. Portuguese right-back was loaned to Serie A giants AC Milan last season. He impressed in Italy but was not able to replace their star full-back Davide Calabria. He is now available for sell at Old Trafford and it seems good move for both player and club.
