It has been a rather interesting season for Manchester United. The club sits in 2nd place in the league with Manchester City looking to register yet another title to their name. United have lost all hopes of a domestic trophy.
Although the club still has better points in comparison to last season and the team is doing well. A top 4 finish along with the Europa League trophy is the target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now. This will be Ole’s final test as United look to end their trophy-less run.
The squad seems pumped and ready but United often drop their guard in such instances. Even if Ole is successful this season United are still not at that level. There is no fixed style of play for the club.
Many times it feels like there is no plan. United still need improvements in their front lines. The club lacks a proper right-winger and it is clearly visible in their games. Most of the time the ball is overloaded on the left-hand side.
United were targeting Jadon Sancho for the same role last season. But this time out it looks like they are going after someone else. Ousmane Dembele is emerging as a very good alternative for Manchester United.
The Frenchman is in the last year of his contract with Barcelona. This seems like an ideal time for United to pursue a deal for Dembele but the club will face competition from their arch-rivals Liverpool.
Liverpool to battle the Red Devils for Ousmane Dembele:
When Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele there were very high expectations from the Frenchman. However, a combination of injuries along with the competition at Barcelona kept Dembele from truly fulfilling his potential.
Last season there were also calls for selling him as Barcelona were facing a cash crunch. United were looking for a right-winger but their main target was Jadon Sancho. But things are different this time out.
Dembele has finally gotten some game time this season and it looks he is regaining his lost form. Liverpool, PSG, Juventus, and Manchester United are some big names actively monitoring Dembele’s situation.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils are among the sides ‘moving the most’ in the race for Dembele. Apparently, the club is having good conversations with Dembele’s representatives and they’re keeping an eye on his development.
Although it is a gamble there can be a huge upside if the move comes through. At the age of just 23, the Frenchman has established himself as a very skilled player. The only problem for him is maintaining his consistency.
He can become the final key piece for unlocking the potential of Ole’s squad. Also, Barcelona will have to consider cashing in on him as they might lose the Frenchman for free next summer. A move for him would be much more feasible looking from United’s perspective.
