At the start of the season, Tottenham Hotspur under Jose Mourinho were seen as title contenders. However, since winning 2-0 against Arsenal things haven’t been good for them. Currently, they are struggling to finish in the top four. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were not talked about a lot compared to Tottenham. However, the Citizens have managed to make an astonishing comeback as they won 15 games consecutively.
They are on top of the table with a game in hand as well. At the same time, it will be a classic Pep Guardiola vs Jose Mourinho game. Both the managers have a history against each other, though at this time it is not as heated as it used to be. With a win, Manchester City will move eight points clear of the top of the Premier League table and Tottenham will also be desperate for a victory.
A win over Manchester City will be morale boosting for Tottenham and it will help them to be on level points with Chelsea. The race for the top four is now heating now and every point is crucial. But there is record is not very good at the Etihad as Manchester City have won seven of their last ten games against them. However since Mourinho has been appointed at Spurs, they have beaten City in those two games.
If the London club are able to win at the Ethihad, it will be for the first time since the 1959-60 season that they managed to win against both Manchester clubs away from home. It was the game against the Spurs where City lost 2-0 that they started this turnaround. Since then Guardiola’s side have only conceded three goals in 14 Premier League games.
Manchester City vs Arsenal Analysis:
There will no surprises in this game. Jose Mourinho has never been shy of how he sets up his teams for the big games. The former Chelsea manager has often justified his style of football by getting the results. On the other hand, Pep Guardiola has never compromised on his style for results. Manchester City at home will try to attack the Spurs, while the visitors will sit and hit them on counterattacks. Guardiola has forged a reputation of surprising his opponents in big games. Against Liverpool he used Phil Foden as a No. 9, initially, it did not work but later on it proved to be the right choice. It is possible that he might again go for a false No.9. In case if that does not work, then he could call upon Gabriel Jesus who is a proper No.9.
However, it will be tough to predict how the former Barcelona manager will set up his team. The key for the Spurs in this game will be Harry Kane. They have struggled in his absence, and if City is able to limit his influence then they will have a good chance in the game. Kane will drop deep to link up the play and the likes of Son or Bergwijn will try to use their pace to get in behind City’s defence. The game looks to be tougher for the Spurs. The Lilly Whites lost to 5-4 to Everton in the FA Cup, Hugo Lloris was heavily criticised for his poor performances. It will be a test for them to show that they are not the same old Spurs, which will crack under pressure. While for City it could be a banana skin, if they take this one lightly they will be punished for it.
