Premier League champions Manchester City will host RB Leipzig in the first encounter of Group A of the Champions League. The Citizens made it to the final in the last year’s edition while Leipzig bowed out to Liverpool in the Round Of 16.

When and Where To Watch:

Manchester City vs RB Leipzig will be available to watch on the Sony Sports Network on television and on Sony LIV online. The fixture will kick-off at 12:30 AM IST on Thursday.

With both the teams instilling an attacking mentality, it should make for an exciting contest. Expect a packed contest in the midfield with Pep Guardiola’s full-backs drifting into midfield during possession.

RB Leipzig will have to work hard to win back the ball and keep a hold of it after retrieving against the relentless pressure of the hosts. They will also have to be mindful of the overlapping and underlap runs made by Manchester City’s midfielders and fullbacks.

Team News and Update

Manchester City:

Manchester City ready for the first Champions League fixture

The Citizens have got the rhythm that they were in desperate need of. Following the blip against Tottenham Hotspur, the team has not turned back. Three successive wins with clean sheets in the Premier League have made them well prepared for this German challenge.

Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne made it into the bench for the clash against Leicester City after completing their recovery. The team currently does not have any injury woes. The only notable absentees are Zack Steffen due to COVID-19 and Benjamin Mendy as a result of a suspension.

RB Leipzig:

RB Leipzig ready for Citizens in UCL clash

The German club is in a major transition period. They lost their coach, best defender, and best midfielder all in one transfer window to Bayern Munich. The side faced a 4-1 defeat against the Bundesliga giants where ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann fielded Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer against their old club. Newly appointed manager Jesse Marsch is still searching for his best playing eleven and formation.

Their tryst with English clubs never seems to come to an end. They were set up against Manchester United in the group stage last season where they initially lost 5-0 away but recorded a 3-2 win at home to qualify into the knockouts. It was yet again a Premier League club that was up against Leipzig, and it was Liverpool, who sealed an end to their run in the competition. The contest will also see Angelino face off against his former club.

The attacking midfielder showed his potential in bursts during the Euro 2020 in the limited game time he got. He will be key in orchestrating the counterattacks and play the pre-assist or even the assist for the forward Andre Silva.
