Bayern Munich target to land Leroy Sane amid speculation of the player leaving the club and Manchester City plan to substitute him
Leroy Sane landed from Schalke with a lot of pomp and celebration. He showed the Premier League fans in similar kind shining for Manchester City in his debut season. Sane managed to adjust a lot faster in the blues of Manchester. He finished his second season with 14 goals and 19 assists.
It will not be easy to find someone to fill the void left by the left-footed winger. Sane has featured in 4,289 minutes in the Premier League over the past two seasons. He averaged 0.52 assists and 0.39 open-play assists during this time. No other attackers can match these numbers in the English top-flight football.
Currently, reports suggest Bayern are willing to pay no more than £60m for Sane. The price tag proposal is such because he is returning from a long-term injury. Also, the player has just one year left on his City contract.
This leaves Guardiola in a tricky scenario but making the sale may help the best of a bad situation. The city will need to find a replacement accordingly. And on the assumption such that the fee received for Sane can be reinvested in the team. Here are our top 3 picks:
1. Leon Bailey (Bayer Leverkusen)
Bailey may obtain a chance to become a world-class player at Manchester City under Pep’s guidance. In terms of his abilities, Bailey can match Sane’s raw talent and pacey style gameplay. Bailey has netted six times in 14 appearances so far this season. His price would also allow City to invest in other areas such as the defense with an estimated market value of around £27m.
2. Milot Rashica (Werder Bremen)
Rashica is highly ranked amidst top European clubs and his performances this season have caught everyone’s eyes. His role as an inside forward would suit comfortably in Guardiola’s tactics. He often plays on the left of a front three despite being right-footed. He also has the ability to play as a classic winger or advanced playmaker.
The 23-year-old has bagged seven goals and assisted four times in 20 appearances in the Bundesliga for relegation-threatened Werder Bremen. The club might enforce Rashica’s sale if they suffer relegation when play resumes as they currently stand second from bottom.
3. Marco Asensio (Real Madrid)
A ruptured cruciate ligament suffered in last July has kept the winger out of action for this season.
However, Liverpool was in for a £67m move for Asensio last summer but his injury will lower the fee now. Also, Real may sell Marco given the arrival of Eden Hazard last year. The Los Blancos winger has been out of favor under the management of Zinedine Zidane. He could look for greener pastures away from the Bernabeu when he returns to fitness.
The winger’s eccentric style of play would settle well under Guardiola. Also the 24-year-old can add up to five more years at his physical peak and develop up to the levels of Sterling, Bernardo Silva, and others.
