Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been given a massive boost in the pursuit of Napoli star Jorginho after Manchester United have reportedly ‘cooled off’ their interest in signing him looking for alternatives.
It seems that Manchester City has gotten the green light to sign the Italian midfield diamond Jorginho. The Premier League champions are now the front-runners in recruiting the Napoli star after being involved in a tug of war with fierce rivals Manchester United over the dynamic midfielder.
With Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the campaign and Marouane Fellaini unwilling to sign a contract extension at Old Trafford, United are short of midfielders for the next season. Mourinho had initially targeted Jorginho as his prime candidate to replace either of the two but Manchester City now seems favorites as the Red side of Manchester look at alternatives for re-enforcements.
According to Manchester United Evening News, Mourinho has reportedly asked his scouts to draw up a new list of midfielders who could aid his side in winning the Premier League title. Manchester United are now looking at a bunch of different midfield stars in the form of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred, Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic Savic, Paris Saint Germain’s Marco Verratti and even Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal to strengthen their squad.
City boss Pep Guardiola is also on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho. The33-year-old was exceptional this season but Pep is a perfectionist and wants to make those minor changes to his already record-breaking team.
Jorginho has excelled tremendously at the Stadio San Paolo Stadium this season almost aiding Napoli to their first Scudetto since 1990. However, Juventus are now in the best position to lift the Serie A title as the Partenopei will finish second.
Jorginho has been great for Napoli, but the Serie A is very different from the Premier League. The 26-year-old is a more defensive minded player and so will need time to adapt to Guardiola’s team. Manchester United are doing the right thing by looking for goal scoring midfielders as scoring will add more value to the team.
