A former Red Devil had called for his club to make at least two deadline day deals.
Manchester United need to sign two more players before the window slams shut, according to Wayne Rooney. The club’s all-time leading goal scorer feels his former club need to recruit more players to bring the Premier League trophy home. Currently playing for DC United in MLS, Rooney feels United will challenge for the title given that they secure a couple of players.
The transfer window slams shut on Tuesday in England, thereby increasing the pressure on Mourinho. He has constantly complained about the slow-paced summer business by Ed Woodward. Brazilian midfielder Fred remains the Reds’ most notable recruitment, but Rooney hopes a late surge may push his former side closer to the title.
Rooney Backs United to Sign More Players
The Englishman left Premier League outfit Everton to ply his trade in America. When quizzed about United’s chances of winning the league, the 32-year-old said,”I think it will be difficult after the season they had last year. They [Manchester City] have been playing some great football. But I hope someone can catch them – it would be nice, so hopefully Manchester United can. I think maybe another signing or two.”

Rooney further added,”They have the game against Leicester on Friday so hopefully they can go one step further this year than second and try and get the title back.”
Indeed Mourinho’s side has struggled to match their spending sprees from the last couple of seasons. They have been linked with a plethora of players, but no deal came to fruition, and youngster Diogo Dalot and veteran Lee Grant remained United’s only additions alongside Fred.
Despite Rooney’s ideas, United did not act on the deadline day. Mourinho might have to make do with the players at his disposal right now. The manager had been crying for new faces, and will go into the new season thoroughly disappointed.
