Man Utd and Man City both in hot pursuit of young superstar

Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in signing Portuguese midfeilder Ruben Neves in the January transfer window.

Defending English Premier League champions Manchester City have shown interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves, who has been impressive for the newly promoted side, reports

Manchester City, who won the Premier League last season with a clear 19 points lead, found Neves as a player ticks the box Pep Guardiola needs. The Citizens made a move for this 21-year-old Portuguese international, but a deal did not go through.

Neves was instrumental for Wolverhampton in last season as he played a vital role in helping the Wolves earn a promotion to the English Premier League. Manchester City expect they could sign Neves in the January transfer window.

Neves’ agent, Mendes has helped players like Bernardo Silva, Nicolas Otamendi and a few others strike a deal with City in the recent years. They hope this relationship would further help seal the deal.

However, Manchester rivals, Manchester United are also reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder. Jose Mourinho, who currently coaches the United, wants to sign the player who has dazzled one and all with his performances for the Wolves.

The fact that Mendes represents both Mourinho and Neves should also be taken into consideration. Nevertheless, the defending Premier League champions believe they could eventually sign him, who’s reportedly to keen to join Manchester City.

However, Manchester City or Manchester United, whoever eventually will sign Neves, will have to spend a reported $78m to lure his services away from Wolves. Neves played for the Midlands club against Manchester City, a game in which the Wolves held Guardiola’s side for a draw.
