The transfer window this summer has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Deals that were likely to happen did not happen. More so, the deals that were unthinkable, took place. Many even regard this summer transfer window as one of the best in recent times.
However, regarding Manchester United, this transfer window is by far the best in a very long time. The club brought in Jadon Sancho, who was a prime target for them. They also brought Raphael Varane from Real Madrid which further strengthened the backline.
But to add the spice on top of it, Cristiano Ronaldo was brought back to the club. This just shook the market like never before. This deal had everything in it, from thriller to one of the best climaxes.
Nevertheless, Manchester United are now major Premier League title contenders for this season. But the only concern here is that despite the club having a fairly strong team, they haven’t yet won a trophy for quite a long time.
And it would not be surprising if Manchester United fail to come anywhere near winning a trophy this season. Such has been the situation under the current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Man United transfer news : Diogo Dalot’s late move to Dortmund blocked on deadline day
The transfer deadline day saw a lot of movement in the market for various clubs. Many were even strengthening on the final day while others were just casual watchers. Such was the story of Manchester United on the transfer deadline day. There weren’t many Man United news stories doing the rounds.
They clearly had two things in mind while going into the last day of the transfer window. One was bringing a defensive midfielder, while the other was bringing a right back. However the Red Devils failed in both of their subsequent approaches.
Manchester United wanted to bring Keiran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. They were trying to sign him from the past week. But the Madrid-based club was adamant on their £30 million fee. However, the Red Devils did try till the end to sign him. They made a bid around €21 million for Kieran Trippier but Atletico Madrid rejected it.
Due to the following situation, Manchester United decided to keep Diogo Dalot at the last minute. He was close to joining Borussia Dortmund and according to Bild, the deal was almost complete. But Manchester United pulled the plug. It was because the Red Devils currently do not have much depth in the right-back position.
They only have Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has not been very impressive either. With the club failing to land anyone in that position, Diogo Dalot will be staying at the Manchester club this season.
Dalot’s chance to impress the Ole
The failed move to Borussia Dortmund might be a blessing in disguise for Diogo Dalot. He will now compete for the place in the starting lineup with Wan-Bissaka. From here on, it is for Diogo Dalot to impress the manager.
And if he is able to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his performances, he can also become a regular in the team. For that he has to work really hard with determination as Wan-Bissaka has proved himself as a solid starter on the right side of United’s defence.
