The Premier League sides, Manchester United and Liverpool will be utterly disappointed with the latest move planned by Barcelona. According to reports, the Spanish giants are prepared to offer a new contract for Ansu Fati which will tie him down till 2026. An enormous release clause will also be attached to it.
Ansu Fati is one of the hottest assets in the world of football right now. He started his journey at Herrera and later joined Sevilla where he continued his progress for 2 more years. Fati later joined La Masia, Barcelona’s youth academy at the age of 10. For 8 years he continued in the same process the legend Lionel Messi came through.
He was often dubbed as the next academy starlet after Messi to carry the club forward. And so far it looks promising. He signed his first professional contract with the Barcelona first-team in 2019. That deal will be expiring in 2022.
Ansu Fati made his professional debut during the first month of that season. The sensation broke many records along his journey. With his debut at the age of 16 years and 298 days, he became the 2nd youngest player to do so for the club, missing the top spot by just 18 days.
When he scored his first Barcelona goal, he became the youngest in the club’s history to do so. A month past his debut, he became the youngest player in La Liga history to assist and score in the same match. The same designation also goes for scoring a brace.
Making his debut in the Champions League, he became the youngest for the club to feature in the competition. And by scoring his first goal here, he took the mantle for the youngest goalscorer in the competition’s history aged 17 years 40 days.
Barcelona to tie Ansu Fati till 2026
Manchester United and Liverpool were closely monitoring the Spanish genius’ situation with Barcelona. There was a small hiccup regarding the player’s contract renewal which the English giants were looking to exploit. However, it now looks like they will have to let go of the chances.
Liverpool will be having a busy transfer. After most of, well, all of their defenders have been ruined by injuries, their complete season has turned upside down. Many players are failing to perform like they used to.
Most of them are even rumored with an away move. Grabbing Fati would have been a great wildcard. They are 6th in the Premier League, with a top-4 spot looking very slim.
Manchester United on the other hand was linked more with the youngster. They were also said to have prepared a huge bid to land him, but that has faded. His addition to this side looked more sensible as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building a youth-oriented team. The Red Devils are currently 2nd in the League and have silverware finally up for grabs, unless the semi-final curse falls upon them, again.
Ansu Fati has not featured since November. He had sustained an injury that had an initial recovery time of 4 months. But it has now been confirmed that he would be missing the remaining season. However, that doesn’t dent his talent in any way, neither the interests of other clubs.
Barcelona are well aware of it and are trying their best to guard him. Putting a release clause in Neymar’s contract saw the club get €222 million. But in Fati’s case, €400 million will be inserted to clear any hope for suitors interested in their asset. Don Balon reports that Fati will sign an €11m-a-year deal that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2026.
