Premier League outfit Manchester United are set to strike a deal for experienced French defender Raphael Varane in the summer. The Red Devils are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Although, there might be a number of outgoings in the club next season.

United are currently right behind their arch-rivals Manchester City for the title crown. Pep Guardiola’s side are topping the group with 74 points from 32 games. While United have played a game less and secured 63 points. However, both sides are performing well in the European competitions.

City have moved on to the next stage of the Champions League by knocking out German side Borussia Dortmund. And, United have sent home Spanish side Granada yesterday from the Europa league competition. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Chelsea have also qualified in their respective European competitions this week.

United’s defense stood strong to keep a clean sheet in their second leg competition against Granada at Europa league. The quarter-final leg one also saw a similar scoreline 0-2 at Los Cármenes last week. Rashford and Bruno Fernandes found their name in the scoresheet to secure a two-goal advantage.

The English side were on top of the Spanish side yesterday night to seal a comfortable 2-0 victory. The Red Devils will now have to face a semi-final clash in the Europa League competition. United lost a good opportunity last time around against Sevilla to win the grand title.

However, Ole’s men are all fired up to claim the title this time in the European circuit. Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani opened the scoring for United early in the first half. The striker might stay for another season at Old Trafford due to his current heavy performance.

According to El Chiringuito TV, Manchester United are in an advanced position to land the experienced French defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. The club is in search of a long-term pair with Harry Maguire at the heart of defense for some time. However, the club couldn’t land any proper defender.

United are now close to strike a deal for the famous French defender Varane in the summer. The Frenchman has been a vital part of Madrid’s defense under Zidane. However, he’s currently not available for selection after testing positive for coronavirus before Liverpool’s clash.

Skipper Sergio Ramos has also tested positive for this deadly virus, but Eder and Nacho are doing a perfect job at the back for Zidane. The duo was solid enough to not allow Liverpool forwards to go past them. However, Zidane will be hoping for his experienced players to return soon to training.

Win-win scenario for both clubs?

As per reports, Los Blancos and Zidane are both ready to offload the French defender in the summer. The defensive pair of Nacho and Eder Militao has done well against Liverpool and claimed a good name. This will also ensure Varane’s exit in the upcoming transfer window.

This Varane deal will be a positive deal for both Real Madrid and United. The French defender contract runs out by the end of 2022 summer. While the defender is currently rated around £60m and Real Madrid could earn this money by selling him this season. These funds can be used elsewhere for a new signing in the summer.

While, United can be happy with Varane’s signature, who suits the best profile to partner Maguire at the back. Varane has been sold for Los Blancos over the years and is still in his prime, which is a good sign for United. Ole could rely on Varane and Maguire pair at the back if the deal goes through in summer.
