Manuel Locatelli is added to the top preferences of Etihad as the agent confirms the interest from England.

Manchester City is looking for a long term replacement for its defensive midfield option as the talisman Fernandinho is approaching the verge of his career. His contract with City ends by the end of this season and a contract extension is unlikely according to the pace of the squad.

The Brazilian joined Manchester City in 2013. He played an important role in the midfield shaping the defensive midfielder role for 8 years in Etihad. He was one of the key elements in the possession football of Pep Guardiola.

According to the latest transfer talks from Manchester, Pep is in search of a long term replacement for Fernandinho. Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli has confirmed interest from Manchester City as the transfer window is active in England.

Reports from Daily Mail confirmed that Manchester City had a chat with Locatelli’s agent Stefano Castelnuovo. The Italian is valued at around €40M according to Transfermarkt. His contract with the Serie A side will come to an end in 2023.

Locatelli is a good option for the Sky Blues and getting the deal before the exit of Fernandinho will add more experience to challenge for the title. On Thursday night, Stefano made a statement that hinted at the move of the player to England. He told to Sport Italia, “Sassuolo is unlikely to sell in the January market. Manchester City are one of the teams that are monitoring him for the next market…”

Locatelli featured in 16 games this season and he is one of the first choices of Sassuolo in Mapei stadium and the price tag also seems convincing for Manchester City. Along with Locatelli, there are a few options shortlisted by City for the window.

It includes Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria and AC Milan’s Ismael Bennacer. The arrival of Rodygo into the defensive midfield role needs more time to settle and the void by Fernandinho’s exit will make a difference in the lineup for Pep.

Man City need revival to challenge for Title

Manchester City are pushing hard in the league as Pep’s tactics are tackled by most of the top sides. They are 3rd in the table behind Champions Liverpool and rival of the town United. A four-point difference separates them from Klopp’s Liverpool with one game lacking.

After two seasons of silverware, Man City faced a decent challenge from Anfield in the title race and Reds won it last season. The 2020/21 season added the challenge from Manchester United and competition a revival is urgent for Pep.

Man City is taking the transfer window in a good mood after the remarkable victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Derby win at Old Trafford. A transfer can happen in the deep midfield position in the course of time.

There are reports saying City will go for a more expensive business in the summer window and by the course of time, they can find more finance if the play resumes in normal mode with fan-filled stadiums.
