Manchester City all set to kick off their spending spree with £102 million double deal on the cards

Manchester City will announce the arrivals of Jorginho and Riyad Mahrez within a fortnight

The Premier League champions are on the verge of completing a double signing of much sought after stars. After a record-breaking season under Guardiola, City officials are in no mood of letting the club stagnate. The signings of Riyad Mahrez and Jorginho will add plenty of quality to the already stacked Manchester City squad and will not let the regular first team players take their positions for granted.

Jorginho has been linked with a move to Manchester City all summer long with the player and club sharing a mutual admiration. A deal worth £42 millions seems to have been agreed between City and Napoli. The player’s agent has previously admitted to interest from clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. However, the Cityzens seem to have beaten off all the competition for the player’s signatures.

Riyad Mahrez, on the other hand, has been on Pep Guardiola’s radar for quite some time. There was intense speculation linking the player with a move to Etihad last summer. But Leicester City stood firm which led to Mahrez downing tools at the beginning of the season. The Algerian, however, got back up and registered 12 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League campaign, his best since Leicester’s title-winning season. According to BBC, City will pay around £60 million to secure the winger’s services.

Manchester City will be looking to complete their transfer business nice and early with a centre-back also being on Guardiola’s wishlist. Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt is a top target while cover in the left-back department should also be on the club’s wishlist.

Author’s Take

City will be giving a demonstration of their pulling power – thanks in part to Pep Guardiola and the insane amounts of money at their disposal – by securing two highly sought after talents. Mahrez will add top quality cover on the wings while also adding the ability to play anywhere behind the striker, either in the hole or on the wings. Jorginho, on the other hand, is a pass master. His record at Napoli in terms of passes completed and touches is second to none. Guardiola will be hoping that both these players can emulate their form at the Etihad as well.
