Real Madrid legend Luis Figo has blasted Julen Lopetegui for the blunders which he has made during his time at the helm in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui was sacked last week following a series of horrible results that had left Real Madrid ninth in the La Liga Santander. The 52 year old was far from a fan favorite in his short lived tenure of four months in Spain’s capital, but neither did he impress anyone close to the club such as its former clubs.
Portugal and Real Madrid legend has now spoken about the manager. Figo said, “Madrid aren’t used to these poor runs of form. We know that when they happen the first one who is blamed is the coach and I’m sure they wanted to change the dynamic of the team. In the end, and Lopetegui is my friend, I believe he made the decision to take what was a difficult job and ultimately paid for the poor run of results.”
Luis Figo is also close friends with Santiago Solari and shared some great moments with the 42 year old at Real Madrid. “Will he keep the job? I don’t know. Coaches’ lifespans depend on results and then it’s important to know how the board of directors feel as well,” Figo added. “Football is very difficult. There are a lot of great coaches who don’t get good results and then there are others, who perhaps aren’t as good, who get better results. How can you explain that?”
Luis Figo is a Real Madrid legend and is very well aware of the demands at the club. He was certainly correct about Julen Lopetegui and is looking forward to Solari’s Real Madrid tenure, the way every Madridista is.
