According to news outlet Calciomercato, Real Madrid has made AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci their prime target in the summer transfer window.
The Champions League holders have been keen admirers of the Italian defender for quite some time now and are prepared to reignite their interest in the former Juventus centre-back. And despite having signed for Milan in July last year, Madrid are ready to make a move for Bonucci in order to bolster their defensive department.
Real Madrid has had a rather disastrous La Liga campaign where they are unlikely to defend their Spanish title this season. This has mainly been the cause of conceding more than double the number of goals than the two rivals-teams above them, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Therefore, the Spanish giants are preparing a mass exodus of unwanted players in the summer to reinforce their squad with new arrivals.
French defender Raphael Varane is also linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu during the next transfer window, which makes Madrid president Fiorentino Perez even more eager to secure Bonucci’s services. The 30-year-old defender, however, could jump ship as Milan has been struggling in the Serie A languishing in sixth place, five points away from a Champions League spot.
The Italians were also knocked out of the Europa League by Arsenal, but their mediocre season could have some silverware as they face Juventus in the final of the Coppa Italia in May.
I guess Bonucci will add some strength to Real Madrid’s back-line as he is an experienced campaigner who has played for one of the best defensive side’s in Europe. He is also a clever defender who should partner Sergio Ramos well in the rearguard. But it’s unlikely that Milan would allow such a player to leave as Milan are preparing to bring back their glory days of the past.
