Liverpool might not be able to sign Bernd Leno this summer, as the Bayer Leverkusen star prefers to join Napoli, rather than the Premier League giants.
The Reds have been looking to bring in a new goalie, with Karius and Mignolet failing to impress and were looking at various options that they could sign, prior to the start of the new campaign. One such star is Leno, who was dropped from the German national squad for the FIFA World Cup and will want to join a bigger club to get noticed and get selected in the future.
However, if the Bundesliga star does not wish to join the Merseyside outfit, then manager Jurgen Klopp will have to look at alternatives to bring into his squad. It has been suggested that the player is said to be keen to join Serie A outfit Napoli, rather than linking with the Kops, due to Carlo Ancelotti’s presence at the San Paolo.
If the deal does go through now, it would mean that the Reds will have to step up and bring in an ideal replacement, after they have struggled to sign AS Roma man Alisson so far, as well. Ancelotti has replaced Maurizio Sarri in charge and his reputation seems to be attracting a lot of high quality players and it will be up to the manager, which players he wants to sign in the current transfer window.
To add to that, sources in Italy claim Leno will be rather happy to snub the English outfit in favour of replacing Pepe Reina at the Italian side, with the latter joining AC Milan on a free transfer.
There is not doubt that it was poor goalkeeping that cost Liverpool the Champions League final and that they are in dire need of a solid keeper in between the sticks, if they wish to win something under Klopp, who is still looking for his first title with the club. With that being said, it is high time they stop looking to get a cheap replacement and go in with big money, to get quality over just another replacement, who costs them a chance at something big.
