Liverpool to sell 6 players to fund new signings in the summer

Liverpool was not able to accomplish much this term as they would have wanted. The title winners of the previous season are going through a rough patch recently. The Reds have lost the last 6 home games at Anfield. The stadium was tipped as their unbeatable fortress.

The Reds are hoping to get back stronger in the upcoming season. Reports claim that Jurgen Klopp is keen to make 3 key signings in the summer. Liverpool will look to add a center-back, a forward as well as a midfielder. But Liverpool needs to raise funds to fuel these signings.

Hence, The Athletic reported that Liverpool will be looking to sell 6 of their first-team members. The list includes the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi. Liverpool will also be open to offers for Marko Grujic, Harry Wilson, Sheyi Ojo, and Ben Woodburn. Some sources also hint that Taiwo Awoniyi, Liam Millar, and Adrian are also surplus to Liverpool.

Most of these names have been popping up on Liverpool transfer lists for a while. But an offer rarely comes due to the high asking price of the Reds. Shaqiri however is likely to catch the eye of some of the European clubs. The Scot has been a reliable reserve for Klopp’s side since his arrival in 2018.

Injury Troubles

Injury Troubles for Liverpool- Van dijk and Oxlade Chamberlain

One of the big issues that Jurgen Klopp’s side faced was their injury concerns. Liverpool saw Virgil van Dijk pick up an injury against Everton at the start of the season. The defender was then ruled out for the rest of the campaign. In addition to him, the Reds also saw Joe Gomez and Joel Matip also endure a season-ending injury.

The Reds also saw many other players in multiple roles pick up an injury then on. With all these injuries troubling them. Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League table with 46 points. Whereas, last season they were sitting at the top with 82-points at this stage.

It is likely that the Reds may miss out on Champions League qualification this term unless they triumph in the UCL. Hence, Liverpool are likely to miss out on precious Champions League revenue. Which may lead to a setback in their transfer plans.

Hence the Reds are desperate to cash in on some of their deadweights. To reinforce their squad ahead of the summer window. The Reds are looking to balance their squad in the attack as well as the defence.

Liverpool keen to reinforce their squad

Jurgen Klopp has had issues in the defense as well as the midfield this term. The injuries of their key defenders were a huge setback. Also with Fabinho and Henderson converting the center-back role. There were voids in the midfield. Thiago Alcantara was brought in to make more attacking and possession games. But the Spaniard has not made any impressive strides so far.

Also, Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to leave at the end of his contract to join Barcelona. This will have a diverse effect on Liverpool’s midfield. Hence, they are on the hunt for a reliable midfielder. However, Liverpool will be prioritizing the signing of a defender.

Reports claim that the Reds are keen to sign RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate. Liverpool will look to activate his £34m release clause. There were reports that Liverpool has already made an offer for the youngster. However, Sky Sports Germany has disregarded any such move from the English club.

The Reds are also looking to seal a deal with Memphis Depay. But face tough competition from FC Barcelona. Liverpool are also scouting various goalkeepers to replace Adrian. With many targets on their list, Liverpool will have to sell their deadweights first to fund the new signings.
