The Blaugrana forward endured a difficult start to life in Catalonia, and now the Merseysiders are set to enter in a negotiation with the club to bring him on loan
Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele’s debut season on the Iberian shores was a baptism of fire. The Frenchman picked up an injury in only his second game with the club, sidelining him for months, followed by struggles to break into the first-team. Even if he managed to end the campaign on high, it seems like the Spanish champions aren’t wholly convinced by it.
And now, they are ready to listen to offers for the player, less then a year on from signing him for a mammoth €105 million from Borussia Dortmund. Premier League giants Liverpool have already emerged in the horizon as potential suitors, and reports suggest they are ready to enter into negotiations with their La Liga counterparts.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is understood to be impressed by the 20-year old, and wants to bolster the attack by roping him in. The Reds are in the Champions League final and play Real Madrid later this week. But it appears that the German gaffer has one eye set on the future.
Questions remain over Liverpool’s move though, as the Frenchman is injury-prone and has already plied his trade in three different leagues in the past three seasons. Dembele needs stability to play to his potential and getting him on loan would be like another year of adaption and adjustment.
The amount that would incur for Liverpool in this business and also the period of loan spell are still unclear, but swift developments can be expected as the sides have long wrapped up their league seasons.
As aforementioned, a player like Dembele needs time and stay put in one league to hit the throttle, before he contemplates on relocating again. The Frenchman did show sings of life towards the fag end of the season, and if Barcelona do keep patience, he may finally begin to repay the sum expended and hopes pinned, on him next season.
