Premier League giants Liverpool recently joined the race for the signature of Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Houssem Aouar. Their rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are also looking interested to sign Aouar, with Gunners leading the race.

French international was strongly linked with Arsenal in the last summer window. Arsenal had a bid of around £50m agreed for Lyon’s skipper. But manager Mikel Arteta went for another major midfield target Thomas Partey, who joined the club for the £45m from the La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool are looking for a new midfielder after losing Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this month. Ligue 1 star will be a great signing for the Reds, who can fits in manager Jurgen Klopp’s formation perfectly. He can partner Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in midfield with an attacking midfielder role.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on Lyon’s playmaker. Spurs failed to sign a good replacement for Christian Eriksen last season. Both Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn failed to replace Eriksen last season, resulting in Spurs finishing last season at 7th position. Manchester United are looking for a possible replacement for Paul Pogba.

Klopp’s call and Liverpool’ stance over Aouar deal:

According to a report from Express, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing the 23-year-old advanced playmaker to Anfield. But he knows it will be tough for the Reds to pull this deal off. Liverpool have a not-so-good relationship with the French giants.

In 2018, Liverpool almost signed their superstar Nabil Fekir. But the deal was called off by Liverpool medical team. They cited a knee injury to the player at that time. Fekir then joined La Liga side Real Betis. He is recently linked back to Premier League move with strong interest from Arsenal.

Lyon are looking to sell their star player to balance their books. They recently lost another star Memphis Depay to Barcelona on a free transfer in the current transfer window. Losing another star player will anger the fanbase but they are aware of the Covid-19 pandemic’s effect on the club’s finance.

Liverpool are well stocked in the midfield department despite selling Wijnaldum. Skipper Henderson, Thiago, and Fabinho are set to lead midfield three roles for the upcoming season. Naby Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlian, Jame Milner, and Curtis Jones being the rotational options. Liverpool recently signed centre-back Ibrahima Konate and now target Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez.

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham keen on Aouar:

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had a chance to sign Aouar last season but he went for Partey. He is now keen on adding a more attacking-minded midfielder at Emirates. Both on-loan Real Madrid attacking midfielders Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard have returned to the parent club. So Arteta has made Aouar his priority signing this season.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also looking to add a new midfielder to his ranks. Aging midfielder Juan Mata and Matic are no more considered as starting eleven status players. Paul Pogba is once again linked with an away move. Mctominay, Fred, and Bruno Fernandes are sure to start in most of the matches next season if Pogba departs Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur are going through a big change this season after sacking Jose Mourinho. North London side recently hired Nuno Espirito Santos as their new manager. And he is keen on squad overhaul at Tottenham Hotspur stadium. According to the same report, Ndombele has a very good relationship with his national teammate Aouar. Spurs will be looking to take advantage of that to sign him.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on Aouar. But the change in management will be a key factor in their interest in Aouar. Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG are also interested in him but have cool off their interest after the arrival of Wijnaldum from Liverpool.
