Arsenal are hoping to bring back their glory days with the help of Mikel Arteta. After a disappointing finish to the 2020/21 season. Arteta and co are planning to make a strong comeback this term. The north London outfit understands that they need to sign some quality players to do so.
As a result, the Gunners have been keen to land Leicester City ace James Maddison. The creative playmaker has been key to Brendan Rodgers’ side lately. His performance last season helped the Foxes finish fifth in the Premier League table. Missing the top-four spot by just a point.
Mikel Arteta has been a huge admirer of the 24-year-old and is hoping to sign him this summer. Arsenal have already made their interest in the player pretty clear. However, Leicester City are not too keen to lose a key player and are not ready to sell. But Arsenal are pressing and have reportedly put forward a four-year deal to the player.
With three more years left on Maddison’s contract with Leicester. Arsenal will have to meet the asking price of the Foxes. Leicester are reportedly looking for a sum above £60m if they are to sell Maddison. Arsenal are finding the sum really huge and are trying to bring it down. However, recent activities of PL rival Liverpool may hinder their plans.
Liverpool keen to sign midfielder
While Arsenal are planning to get their squad together, Liverpool are keen to strengthen their side. The Reds are hoping to get the PL trophy back next term. Hence, Jurgen Klopp has been making a list of players that is key to his plans.
Belgium and Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is one of his top targets. The 24-year-old has been impressive for Leicester last term. He was also able to keep his form at its best for the Belgium squad in the Euros.
After the departure of Gini Wijnaldum, the Liverpool midfield needs some new recruits. Jurgen Klopp sees Tielemans as the ideal option to sign this summer. Liverpool are reportedly willing to meet Leicester’s asking price of £64m.
In addition to this, The Mirror reports that Tielemans himself is pushing Leicester to accept the deal. This will be a huge power-up for Klopp’s side. But if the deal does push through, Arsenal may see their transfer plans go downhill.
Arsenal may lose the Maddison deal.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are tailing key players in the Leicester City midfield. James Maddison and Youri Tielemans play a pivotal role for the Foxes. Brendan Rodgers will not be happy about losing both these stars in the same window. That too, without having proper replacements for them.
Hence, it will be a race between Liverpool and Arsenal. The fastest of the two clubs will get to keep their target and will also slash the chances of the other signing their target. Rodgers sees both Tielemans and Maddison as key players in his squad.
Leicester are also hoping to make a strong comeback next term after their unlucky fifth place finish. As of now, Liverpool have a clear advantage at signing Tielemans as they are already willing to pay the asking price. Arsenal, on the other hand, finds the price tag way off their limits.
Arsenal have already lost the race to sign a few of their previous targets. They are not planning to lose another target as well. Hence, we may see the Gunners make a shocker move soon. However, nothing is official as of now. We may see some changes in the situation in the coming days.
